Alright, let me give you the honest picture. Buc-ee’s Murfreesboro is coming, it’s really coming, and it’s coming this year: the current tentative target is November 16, 2026. That’s not a rumor, that’s not a placeholder, that’s a specific date multiple local sources have identified based on Buc-ee’s construction progress and hiring timeline. Buc-ee’s itself hasn’t officially confirmed the exact day, but their media coordinator Cissy Gonzalez told Main Street Media of Tennessee that the store will open by the end of 2026. And when you drive past the site off Interstate 24 at Joe B. Jackson Parkway, the exterior of the 74,000 sq ft building looks essentially complete. Safety bollards for the 120-pump area are already in place. This one is genuinely on the runway for a fall 2026 landing.

The Murfreesboro Buc-ee’s has one detail nobody else emphasizes properly: it was originally supposed to be 76,245 square feet, which would have made it the world’s largest Buc-ee’s at the time of planning. Then Luling, Texas reopened at 75,593 square feet in June 2024 and took the title. Murfreesboro got quietly scaled back to 74,000 square feet. This is the same story that happened at Ocala, Florida (originally 80,000 sq ft, scaled to 74,000). Buc-ee’s has clearly decided somewhere between 74,000 and 75,593 sq ft is the ceiling for the current expansion phase. This guide walks through everything: the specific date, the address you can drive by right now, the specs (including the surprising absence of a car wash), and the answer for every Nashville-metro resident wondering how much closer this brings them to a Buc-ee’s.

Quick reference:

  • Address: 3355 Elam Rd, Murfreesboro, TN
  • Highway: I-24 at Joe B. Jackson Parkway exit
  • County: Rutherford County
  • Distance from Nashville: ~35 miles southeast (~40 minutes)
  • Groundbreaking: October 14, 2025 (Governor Bill Lee attended)
  • Tentative opening date: November 16, 2026 (per local reports)
  • Company-confirmed opening window: “By end of 2026” per Buc-ee’s media coordinator
  • Size: 74,000 sq ft (originally planned 76,245 sq ft)
  • Fuel pumps: 120 fueling positions
  • Parking: 490 spaces + 15 for buses and RVs
  • Jobs: 250 full-time positions
  • Land purchased: 2022 via LLC for $4.65 million (46 acres)
  • Notable absence: No car wash in current plans

Is Buc-ee’s Murfreesboro Open Yet?

Not yet. As of July 2026, the Murfreesboro Buc-ee’s is under active construction. The exterior of the 74,000 sq ft main building appears largely complete. Safety bollards for the 120 gas pumps are installed. Interior buildout, hiring, and inventory setup are still to come.

If you drive by the site today at I-24 and Joe B. Jackson Parkway, you’ll see a nearly-finished exterior with construction crews working on the final phases. This is very different from the earlier-stage “coming soon” projects like Ocala, Florida (2029) or New Kent, Virginia (December 2031). Murfreesboro is genuinely months away from opening, not years.

When Will Buc-ee’s Murfreesboro Open?

November 16, 2026 is the current tentative date per local reporting.

Here’s the source-by-source breakdown so you can trust the timing:

  • The Coconut Mama (July 2026): “Recent local reports have identified November 16, 2026, as a tentative opening date”
  • Main Street Media of Tennessee (May 21, 2026): Cissy Gonzalez (Buc-ee’s media coordinator) confirmed “by end of 2026”
  • Nashville Post (October 16, 2025): Groundbreaking coverage cited “December 2026”
  • WKRN News 2 (August 2025): “November 2026” per Murfreesboro update
  • Buc-ee’s official website: Lists “2026” without specifying month

The most credible synthesis: Buc-ee’s is targeting mid-November 2026, with November 16 as the working date. Construction, inspections, and final staffing could push this into December, but the current signals point to a mid-November grand opening.

How the timeline breaks down from here:

  • September 29 to October 1, 2026: Large hiring event scheduled at The View at the Fountains
  • October 2026: Final buildout, stocking, staff training
  • November 16, 2026 (tentative): Grand opening at 6 AM
  • December 2026 (fallback): If mid-November slips

If Buc-ee’s opens Murfreesboro before Thanksgiving 2026, it will be one of the fastest builds in the chain’s recent history, just over 13 months from October 14, 2025 groundbreaking to November 16, 2026 opening. That’s on the fast end of Buc-ee’s typical 12 to 18 month construction window.

Where Is Buc-ee’s Murfreesboro?

Address: 3355 Elam Rd, Murfreesboro, TN Highway: Interstate 24 at the Joe B. Jackson Parkway exit County: Rutherford County Distance from downtown Nashville: ~35 miles southeast (~40 minutes) Distance from Nashville International Airport: ~20 miles north (~25 minutes) Distance from downtown Murfreesboro: ~5 miles east

The site sits on 46 acres of land that Buc-ee’s purchased via an LLC in 2022 for $4.65 million, according to Rutherford County property records. That’s a modest land cost by Buc-ee’s standards, reflecting Middle Tennessee’s growth-corridor real estate at the time.

Why Murfreesboro specifically?

Two reasons. First, the location is a natural I-24 corridor stop between Nashville and Chattanooga. Buc-ee’s Director of Real Estate Stan Beard explained the strategic thinking at the groundbreaking: “Murfreesboro has been a great partner to work with since we first visited. This community will be a welcome pitstop for folks traveling to and from Nashville and Atlanta and the Gulf Coast.”

Second, Murfreesboro is one of the fastest-growing cities in Tennessee, anchored by Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) and steady suburban development from Nashville. The through-traffic plus growing local population is exactly the demographic Buc-ee’s builds for.

Nearby landmarks for orientation:

  • Middle Tennessee State University: ~7 miles west
  • Nashville International Airport (BNA): ~20 miles north
  • Nissan Stadium (Titans/Predators): ~40 miles northwest
  • Grand Ole Opry: ~40 miles north
  • Country Music Hall of Fame: ~35 miles northwest

The 76,245 → 74,000 sq ft Downgrade Story

Here’s the piece of Murfreesboro Buc-ee’s history most guides skip: the store was originally supposed to be 76,245 square feet.

Why 76,245? Because when the project was announced in early 2025, that specific square footage would have made Murfreesboro the world’s largest Buc-ee’s. Sevierville, Tennessee had held the title at 74,000 sq ft since October 2023 (a record set specifically to beat New Braunfels Texas). Murfreesboro was going to be Tennessee’s second world’s-largest Buc-ee’s.

What changed: On June 10, 2024, Luling, Texas reopened at 75,593 sq ft, reclaiming the world’s largest title from Sevierville. This shifted Buc-ee’s competitive calculation. Murfreesboro’s original 76,245 sq ft plan would have leapfrogged Luling, and Buc-ee’s clearly decided against that.

The result: Murfreesboro was quietly scaled back from 76,245 sq ft to 74,000 sq ft, the standard flagship size, matching Sevierville and most new-state openings.

On January 20, 2026, Buc-ee’s officially confirmed that Luling would remain the world’s largest for the foreseeable future. That statement effectively confirmed that Murfreesboro (and Ocala Florida, and Fort Pierce Florida) would all be scaled back from their original “largest ever” plans to the 74,000 sq ft standard.

The pattern across multiple projects:

  • Ocala, FL: Originally 80,000 sq ft → 74,000 sq ft
  • Murfreesboro, TN: Originally 76,245 sq ft → 74,000 sq ft
  • Fort Pierce, FL: Originally 76,245 sq ft → walked back

Somewhere around 74,000 to 75,593 sq ft appears to be the ceiling Buc-ee’s is comfortable with for the current expansion phase. If you were expecting Murfreesboro to be the world’s largest, adjust your expectations. At 74,000 sq ft it will still be enormous, just not record-breaking.

Notable Absences:

  • NO CAR WASH in current plans (per The Coconut Mama)
  • No confirmed Tesla Supercharger count

Why No Car Wash? (Notable Detail)

Most newer Buc-ee’s flagships include a car wash, so Murfreesboro’s absence of one is genuinely notable. The Coconut Mama specifically flagged this in July 2026 reporting: “the current plans do not include a car wash.”

Why would Buc-ee’s skip a car wash here?

Speculation, not confirmed:

  1. Land constraints. The 46-acre site has to accommodate 490 vehicle spaces, 15 RV/bus spots, 120 pumps, the 74,000 sq ft building, and a walking trail. Adding a car wash might not fit.
  2. Nearby car wash competition. Murfreesboro has multiple existing car wash chains (Take 5, Tommy’s Express, etc.) that already serve the market. Buc-ee’s may have decided the market is saturated.
  3. Cost efficiency. A Buc-ee’s car wash adds $2-4 million to construction cost. Skipping it keeps the project on budget.
  4. Testing a car-wash-optional flagship format. Buc-ee’s may be testing whether a car-wash-free flagship performs similarly to those with car washes.

The result: If you live in Murfreesboro and were hoping to add a car wash to your Buc-ee’s stops, you’ll need to go elsewhere. If Buc-ee’s later adds a car wash to Murfreesboro (they’ve retrofitted others), it wouldn’t be until 2027 or later.

The Walking Trail Feature (Unique)

Here’s a genuinely unusual detail: Murfreesboro will have a walking trail on the property. WGNS Radio reported this back in early 2025. Only a handful of Buc-ee’s locations include walking trails, and the Murfreesboro trail appears to be one of the more publicly-emphasized features.

Why a walking trail at a gas station?

Buc-ee’s has increasingly positioned itself as a “destination” travel center rather than just a fuel stop. The average Buc-ee’s visit runs 20+ minutes (twice the 8-9 minute average at a typical gas station). Adding a walking trail encourages longer stays, which correlates with higher in-store spending on brisket, jerky, and merchandise.

For Murfreesboro residents, the walking trail also means the site can serve as a legitimate community amenity rather than just a highway pit stop. Locals can walk the trail, stop into the store, get brisket for dinner, and treat the whole visit as a mini outing.

If you’re planning to visit Murfreesboro Buc-ee’s for the first time, budget an extra 15-20 minutes for the walking trail.

The $9 Million Butler Drive Road Project

Before Buc-ee’s could move forward, Murfreesboro invested in significant road realignment near the site. Main Street Media reported on the completed project in May 2026:

The project:

  • $9 million total cost
  • Butler Drive realigned to the west
  • New connection to Joe B. Jackson Parkway about 600 feet west of the previous intersection
  • Almost one-mile stretch of three-lane, curb and gutter road with sidewalks on both sides
  • Part of Murfreesboro’s 2040 Major Transportation Plan

Additional infrastructure:

  • Changes to local streets around the interchange
  • New roundabout installation
  • Modified I-24 access patterns

This is a much smaller infrastructure investment than the delayed projects (Ocala’s $100M, New Kent VA’s $84M), which is why Murfreesboro is opening in 2026 while those are pushed to 2029 and 2031. The $9M Butler Drive work was completed on schedule, letting Buc-ee’s proceed without infrastructure-related delays.

Is Buc-ee’s Coming to Nashville?

Not inside Nashville itself, but Murfreesboro is 35 miles southeast, and once it opens in November 2026, it will be the closest Buc-ee’s to Nashville. For any Nashville resident, this is essentially your Buc-ee’s, about a 40-minute drive southeast on I-24.

From downtown Nashville:

  • Take I-24 East toward Chattanooga
  • Continue for approximately 35 miles
  • Exit at Joe B. Jackson Parkway
  • Total drive time: 40-45 minutes without traffic

Nashville’s Buc-ee’s history:

Until Murfreesboro opens, Nashville’s nearest Buc-ee’s has been Smiths Grove, Kentucky: 75 miles north on I-65, about a 1h 15min drive. Nashville residents doing Louisville or Kentucky trips have been hitting Smiths Grove as their default. Once Murfreesboro opens, the driving distance drops from 75 miles to 35 miles, cutting the trip roughly in half.

Why isn’t there a Buc-ee’s in Nashville proper?

Downtown Nashville doesn’t fit Buc-ee’s site-selection model (interstate interchanges with 15-30 acres of land). Nashville’s downtown and inner-ring suburbs have neither the land availability nor the traffic pattern Buc-ee’s builds for. Murfreesboro (I-24 corridor with growing suburban demographics) is a much better fit for the Buc-ee’s format.

Long-term: No Buc-ee’s is announced for Nashville metro beyond Murfreesboro. A future Buc-ee’s in Nashville suburbs (Franklin, Cool Springs, or somewhere along I-40 east/west of Nashville) is possible but unannounced.

Is There a Buc-ee’s Near Franklin, Brentwood, or Cool Springs?

Not yet, but Murfreesboro will be 30-35 miles east of Franklin/Brentwood/Cool Springs when it opens.

From Franklin or Cool Springs:

  • Take I-65 North to I-24 East (via Nashville) OR
  • Take I-840 East directly to I-24 East (bypassing Nashville)
  • Continue to Joe B. Jackson Parkway exit
  • Total drive time: 35-45 minutes

Realistic access: Franklin and Brentwood residents will have a slightly longer drive than direct Nashville residents (who have straight I-24 access). But 35-45 minutes is still very reasonable for a monthly Buc-ee’s routine.

For affluent Nashville suburb residents who currently drive to Smiths Grove KY (~90 miles) for their Buc-ee’s fix, Murfreesboro will cut that in half.

Is There a Buc-ee’s Near Chattanooga?

Not currently, and Murfreesboro won’t help much. Chattanooga is 100 miles southeast of Murfreesboro on I-24, about a 1h 45min drive. Not casual.

Chattanooga’s current closest options:

  • Buc-ee’s Crossville, TN: approximately 70 miles east on I-40 (1 hour)
  • Buc-ee’s Sevierville, TN: approximately 120 miles east on I-40 (~2 hours)

Once Murfreesboro opens, Chattanooga will still be closer to Crossville than Murfreesboro. Chattanooga doesn’t get a Buc-ee’s routing upgrade from the Murfreesboro opening.

Long-term: No Chattanooga-area Buc-ee’s is announced. Chattanooga is a real gap in the Tennessee Buc-ee’s map, but given the state already has four projects (Crossville, Sevierville, Gallaway, Murfreesboro), a fifth seems unlikely near-term.

Where’s the Closest Buc-ee’s to Murfreesboro Right Now?

Until Murfreesboro opens in November 2026, Middle Tennessee residents have two current Buc-ee’s options:

Buc-ee’s Crossville, TN

  • Address: 4514 Highway 127N, Crossville, TN 38571
  • Highway: I-40 Exit 320
  • Opened: June 27, 2022 (Tennessee’s first Buc-ee’s)
  • Distance from Murfreesboro: ~90 miles east (~1h 30min)

Buc-ee’s Sevierville, TN

  • Address: 2045 Buc-ee’s Blvd, Kodak, TN 37764
  • Highway: I-40 Exit 407
  • Opened: June 2023 (was world’s largest 2023-2024)
  • Distance from Murfreesboro: ~180 miles east (~3 hours)

For Middle Tennessee, Crossville is your realistic option until Murfreesboro opens. It’s a 1h 30min drive on I-40 east: pair it with a Cumberland Plateau day trip or a Knoxville visit to make the drive worth it.

The Country Music + Buc-ee’s Angle

Murfreesboro’s opening in November 2026 is well-timed for country music tourism. If you’re planning a Nashville trip that includes CMA Fest 2027 (June), any of the Bridgestone Arena concert series, or a Grand Ole Opry visit, adding a Buc-ee’s stop becomes easy for the first time.

The Nashville tourism routing pattern:

  • Drive into Nashville via I-24 from the southeast (Chattanooga, Atlanta, Gulf Coast)
  • Stop at Buc-ee’s Murfreesboro 35 miles before downtown Nashville
  • Continue to Nashville for hotels, honky-tonks, and shows
  • On the way out, stop at Buc-ee’s again for fuel, brisket sandwiches, and Beaver Nuggets for the road

Stan Beard’s own framing at groundbreaking: “This community will be a welcome pitstop for folks traveling to and from Nashville and Atlanta and the Gulf Coast.” The I-24 corridor connects Nashville → Chattanooga → Atlanta → Gulf Coast, one of the busiest music-and-vacation traffic patterns in the Southeast.

Which Tennessee Buc-ee’s opened first?

Crossville: June 27, 2022. It was Tennessee’s first Buc-ee’s. Sevierville opened second in June 2023 as the world’s largest at the time (74,000 sq ft, held the title until Luling reopened in June 2024).

How many Buc-ee’s will Tennessee have when Murfreesboro opens?

Was Murfreesboro Buc-ee’s supposed to be the world’s largest?

Originally, yes. Early 2025 plans called for a 76,245 sq ft store, which would have surpassed both Sevierville TN (74,000) and the New Braunfels TX historical flagship. But when Luling TX reopened at 75,593 sq ft in June 2024, Buc-ee’s scaled Murfreesboro back to the standard 74,000 sq ft flagship size.

The Bottom Line

Buc-ee’s Murfreesboro is genuinely close, not “years away” like Ocala or New Kent VA. The exterior is essentially complete. The pump islands are being fitted out. Hiring events are already scheduled for September and October. The specific date most likely to hit is November 16, 2026, though December 2026 is a realistic fallback if any late-stage issues emerge.

My honest suggestions:

  • Live in Murfreesboro, Smyrna, La Vergne, or Lebanon? This is your local Buc-ee’s, 10-25 minutes away. Treat it like a routine grocery run once it opens.
  • Live in Nashville? 40 minutes southeast on I-24. Cuts your drive to a Buc-ee’s roughly in half compared to Smiths Grove KY.
  • Live in Franklin, Brentwood, or Cool Springs? 35-45 minutes east via I-840 or through Nashville. A legitimate day trip destination.
  • Live in Clarksville? Murfreesboro is 85 miles southeast. Smiths Grove KY (65 miles northeast) may still be more convenient.
  • Live in Chattanooga? Sorry, Crossville is still your closest at 70 miles east. Murfreesboro is 100 miles northwest and no help for you.
  • Driving I-24 between Nashville and Atlanta/Chattanooga? This will be your default I-24 stop starting November 2026.

Three things I’ll be watching between now and the opening:

  1. The September 29 to October 1, 2026 hiring event. If it happens on schedule and draws a full applicant pool, we’re on track for November 16 opening.
  2. Interior buildout progress in October 2026. By mid-October, all fixtures, coolers, and merchandise displays need to be in place for late-November opening.
  3. Any official announcement of the specific opening date. Buc-ee’s typically confirms the exact opening date 4-6 weeks in advance. Watch for a mid-October announcement.

I update this page every time a major milestone shifts. If you spot local news I’ve missed (especially about specific opening date confirmation or construction milestones), drop a note through the contact.
