This Privacy Policy explains what information buceeslocation.com (“we”, “us”, “the site”) collects when you use our Buc-ee’s location map and directory, why we collect it, who it is shared with, and the choices available to you. It applies to every page on the buceeslocation.com domain.

Information We Collect
1. Information You Actively Provide
The only situation in which you volunteer personal information to us is when you contact us. If you email [email protected] to report a closed store, submit a correction, ask a question, or make a legal request, we receive whatever you choose to put in that message, which typically includes your email address, your name if you sign it, and the content of your message.
We use that information solely to respond to you and, where relevant, to verify and correct the data shown on the site. We retain correspondence for up to 24 months so that we have a record of reported corrections, then delete it. We do not add email addresses received this way to any marketing list, and we do not sell or rent them.
2. Information Collected Automatically
Like nearly every website, our hosting infrastructure records standard server log data when a page is requested. This includes:
- The IP address of the requesting device
- The date and time of the request
- The page or file requested and the HTTP response code
- The referring URL, where your browser sends one
- The browser user-agent string, which identifies browser and operating system
Server logs exist for security and reliability purposes: identifying automated scraping, diagnosing errors, and defending against denial-of-service and intrusion attempts. Our lawful basis for this processing under UK and EU data protection law is legitimate interest in operating a secure and functional website. Logs are retained by our hosting provider on a rolling short-term basis and are not used to build profiles of individual visitors.
3. Approximate Location Data
The map includes a “Find Buc-ee’s Near Me” feature. When you press it, your browser asks whether you want to share your location. This prompt comes from your browser, not from us, and you can decline it.
If you approve it, the browser’s Geolocation API returns your approximate latitude and longitude to the JavaScript running on the page. That JavaScript calculates the distance between you and each store in our directory and re-sorts the list nearest-first. This calculation happens entirely inside your browser. Your coordinates are not sent to our servers, are not written to a database, are not logged, and are discarded when you close or reload the page.
You can revoke location permission at any time through your browser’s site settings, usually reached by clicking the padlock or tune icon next to the address bar. If you do not grant permission, everything else on the site continues to work; you can type a city, ZIP code, or highway into the search box instead.
4. Data Stored in Your Browser
The site uses your browser’s local storage, a small private storage area on your own device, for two purposes:
- Visited store tracking. When you tick the “visited” box on a store card, the store’s identifier is written to local storage so your progress badge and Buc-ee’s Passport persist between visits.
- Interface preferences. Filter selections and map view preferences may be remembered so the map behaves consistently the next time you open it.
This data never leaves your device. It is not readable by us, it is not synchronised between your devices, and it disappears if you clear your browser’s site data. Because it is stored under a key that is not tied to any identifier we hold, it cannot be used to recognise you across sessions on our side.
Cookies and Similar Technologies
Cookies are small text files placed on your device by a website or by a third party whose code the website loads. We use a small number of first-party cookies for basic site function, and third-party services on this site set their own cookies.

- Strictly necessary. Required for the site to load, to maintain security, and to remember your cookie consent choice. These cannot be switched off.
- Analytics. Google Analytics cookies that tell us, in aggregate, which pages are visited and how people move through the site.
- Advertising. Google AdSense and its advertising partners set cookies to serve ads, measure ad performance, and limit how many times you see the same advertisement.
Where required by law, we ask for your consent before setting analytics and advertising cookies, and you can change that choice at any time.

Analytics
We use Google Analytics to understand aggregate site usage: which pages are popular, which search terms bring people here, roughly which country visitors come from, and whether features like the trip planner are actually used. This informs which parts of the directory we expand.
Google Analytics processes an abbreviated form of your IP address and a randomly generated client identifier. We do not enable Google Signals cross-device tracking, and we do not upload any personally identifying data to Analytics. You can prevent Analytics collection entirely by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
Map Tiles and Other Third-Party Services
The interactive map is built with the open-source Leaflet library and draws its background tiles from OpenStreetMap data served through CARTO. When the map loads, your browser requests those image tiles directly from the tile provider, which means the provider receives your IP address and the tiles you requested as a normal consequence of serving them. We do not control and cannot access that log data.
Navigation buttons on each store card hand off to Google Maps, Apple Maps, or Waze. Pressing one of those buttons opens the relevant service with the store’s coordinates. From that point you are on their platform and their privacy policy governs what happens next.
Our website is hosted by Hostinger, which processes server logs on our behalf as a data processor, and runs on WordPress. Neither uses your data for their own marketing purposes in connection with this site.
How Long We Keep Data
- Email correspondence: up to 24 months, then deleted.
- Server logs: short rolling retention set by our host, typically measured in weeks.
- Analytics data: retained according to the retention period configured in Google Analytics, after which event-level data is deleted.
- Geolocation coordinates: never stored. Discarded when the page closes.
- Local storage (visited stores, preferences): stored on your device until you clear it.
Your Privacy Rights
If You Are in the United Kingdom or European Economic Area
Under the UK GDPR and EU GDPR you have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, to have inaccurate data corrected, to have data erased, to restrict or object to processing, to data portability, and to withdraw consent at any time where processing is based on consent. Withdrawing consent does not affect processing that already took place.
In practice, because we do not operate accounts and do not build visitor profiles, the personal data we hold about any individual is usually limited to email correspondence. To exercise any of these rights, email [email protected]. We respond within one month. If you believe we have handled your data improperly, you may complain to your national supervisory authority; in the UK this is the Information Commissioner’s Office.
If You Are in California
Under the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the CPRA, you have the right to know what categories of personal information are collected and for what purpose, the right to delete personal information we hold about you, the right to correct inaccurate information, the right to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information, and the right not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights.
We do not sell personal information in exchange for money. However, the use of advertising cookies to deliver cross-context behavioural advertising may constitute “sharing” under California law. You can opt out through the cookie controls on this site, through Google Ads Settings, or by enabling a Global Privacy Control signal in your browser, which we honour where technically supported. Other US States
Residents of Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, Texas, Oregon, Montana, and other states with comprehensive privacy statutes have broadly similar rights to access, correct, delete, and opt out of targeted advertising. The same contact address handles those requests.
Children’s Privacy
This site is a travel and road trip resource intended for a general adult audience. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. We have not configured this site as child-directed content for advertising purposes. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it promptly.
International Data Transfers
Our service providers, including Google and our hosting provider, may process data in the United States and other countries. Where personal data of UK or EEA residents is transferred outside those areas, the relevant provider relies on Standard Contractual Clauses, adequacy decisions, or the EU-US Data Privacy Framework as the transfer mechanism.
Security
The site is served exclusively over HTTPS with a valid TLS certificate, so traffic between your browser and our server is encrypted in transit. Administrative access is restricted and protected by strong authentication. Because we deliberately collect very little personal data, the practical impact of any security incident on visitors is minimal. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we will notify affected individuals and the relevant regulator if a breach occurs that is likely to result in a risk to rights and freedoms.
Links to Other Websites
The site links to external resources such as the official Buc-ee’s website, mapping services, news reports about store openings, and state highway authorities. Once you follow an external link, this Privacy Policy no longer applies. We encourage you to read the privacy policy of any site you visit.
Do Not Track
Some browsers transmit a “Do Not Track” signal. There is no industry consensus on how sites should respond, so we do not currently alter our behaviour in response to DNT headers. We do respond to the Global Privacy Control signal where our consent tooling supports it.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy as the site changes, as new services are added, or as the law develops. The “last updated” date at the top always reflects the current version. Material changes, such as introducing a new category of data collection, will be flagged prominently on the site for a reasonable period. Continuing to use the site after a change takes effect indicates acceptance of the revised policy.
