What States Have Buc-ee’s Right Now?

Fourteen states have at least one open Buc-ee’s travel center as of August 2026. Texas dominates the map, of the 58 open stores, 37 sit inside Texas, which works out to roughly one Buc-ee’s for every 810,000 Texans versus one per every 3.5 million people in the rest of the country. That imbalance is closing fast, but for now, road trips through the Southeast and Southwest are where you’ll actually see the density.

Every Buc-ee’s Location by State

Texas 37 Locations

Texas is where Buc-ee’s started (Clute, 1982) and where the format was refined into what it is today (Texas Monthly). The 37 open stores range from the original 3,000-square-foot shop in Lake Jackson (still operating) to the Luling flagship that CBS Austin measured at 75,593 sq ft when it opened June 10, 2024 (CBS Austin). What the Luling reviews converge on. Across 700+ Yelp reviews and a deep Tripadvisor thread, three things come up consistently enough to treat as fact rather than opinion.

Time of day decides your entire experience. Reviewers who stop early in the morning describe a near-empty store. Reviewers who stop mid-afternoon describe a scrum, pumps full, parking circling, checkout backed up. Same store, same week, completely different visit. This is the single most actionable thing in the review corpus.

The chopped brisket sandwich is the consensus order. It’s the item that shows up in positive reviews across every price point and every state, and it’s widely described as better than the barbecue at plenty of dedicated barbecue restaurants, which, in Texas, is a real claim.

The honest complaint: the negative reviews aren’t about the food or the bathrooms. They cluster on two things, packaged goods and souvenirs are not cheap, and at peak times the sheer scale works against you. A store with 120 pumps and a 17-acre footprint still has finite parking on a Saturday afternoon, and finding a space can take longer than the stop itself.

Alabama: 4 Locations

Alabama has the distinction of being the first state where Buc-ee’s tested whether the Texas model would travel. The Loxley store opened January 2019 and did well enough that three more followed in five years. Alabama also has the best geographic distribution outside Texas, one store on each major interstate (I-10, I-20, I-65, I-85), so any east-west or north-south drive through the state hits at least one. Georgia: 3+ Locations

Georgia joined in November 2020 and got a fourth site (Monroe County) confirmed for late 2027. The I-75 corridor between Atlanta and Florida is Buc-ee’s third-highest-traffic route after I-10 and I-45, which is why the state has two stores on that highway alone. Tennessee: 2+ Locations

Sevierville held the world’s-largest title from October 2023 until Luling opened eight months later. At 74,707 sq ft it’s still the second-largest and has 120 fuel pumps and 24 Tesla stalls, the most Tesla stalls at any current Buc-ee’s location. It’s also the closest full-scale Buc-ee’s to the entrance of Great Smoky Mountains National Park, which is why the summer crowds are unlike anywhere else in the network. Florida: 2 Locations

Both Florida stores opened in 2021 on I-95, one hour apart from each other. Two more (St. Lucie and Tallahassee) are confirmed for 2027, and a rumored Ocala location is under early review for 2028. Notably, the proposed Fort Pierce store (which was going to unseat Luling as the world’s largest at a rumored 76,245 sq ft) was scaled back in early 2026. Kentucky: 2 Locations

Richmond opened in April 2022 and Smiths Grove in December 2023. Kentucky’s coming-soon file has been messier than other states, an Oak Grove location has been announced and delayed twice while local infrastructure catches up. The Single-Store States

Seven states have exactly one Buc-ee’s each. Most of these opened between 2022 and mid-2026, and the pattern is telling: Buc-ee’s is testing whether a single flagship in each new state can pull enough traffic to justify a second before committing. What New Buc-ee’s Locations Are Opening in 2026 and 2027?

Opening in 2026 (Already Confirmed)

The Goodyear opening was the biggest first-day event of the year. Local reporting from Phoenix TV stations covered lines of over 45 minutes at the checkout by mid-morning. It’s also the first Buc-ee’s positioned to serve the LA-to-Phoenix drive, closest previous store was Loxley, AL, roughly 1,500 miles east.

Confirmed for 2027

On the Horizon (2028 to 2031)

Sites currently in early review or with delayed timelines include Lafayette, LA; a second North Carolina store; a Utah location (Springville); Idaho; Indiana (Greenwood); Nebraska; Iowa; a second Arkansas store (West Memphis, pushed to 2028); and Ocala, FL. None of these have firm opening dates as of July 2026.

What Just Opened

Two openings this year permanently changed the map. Huber Heights, Ohio opened April 6, 2026, the first Buc-ee’s north of Kentucky and the closest one to the entire Great Lakes region. Goodyear, Arizona opened June 22, 2026 as the first store in the West and the 13th state on the network.

The Huber Heights first-day numbers surprised even Buc-ee’s, local Dayton reporting put opening-day revenue above $1 million, the highest first-day total in company history. What that tells you is not that Ohio was underserved (though it was), but that Buc-ee’s has become a genuine destination for travelers within a 200-mile radius of any new location.

What Food Is Actually Worth Ordering?

The buc-ee’s menu is enormous, so here’s the shortlist, the six items that show up most consistently across food writers, chef roundups and review corpora, in rough order of how reliably they’re recommended:

1. Chopped brisket sandwich, the consensus number one and the best-selling sandwich in the chain. Smoked in-store overnight, chopped to order at the counter.

2. Beaver Nuggets, the item that defines the brand. Caramel-coated corn puffs, closest description being brown-butter kettle corn crossed with a churro.

3. Beef jerky, cut at the counter from a wall of varieties. The sampling table is the point; taste before you commit to a bag at that price.

4. Breakfast tacos, served all day, and the chicken fajita version gets nearly as many mentions as the breakfast ones.

5. Candied pecans, the sleeper pick. Turns up in almost every chef-sourced list and almost no tourist list.
